The Fabric Of Slavery - Cotton

Discovering Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England
Textile in England History. Few places in England can match Calderdale for its intrinsic history and culture. A common thread (be it a pun) is the determination and enterprise of people to eke out an existence on a moorland fringe that threw anything and everything at it in the way of severe weather, drought etc, to try and prevent the success. The beginnings of the textile industry were high priority in this region nestled away "in the valleys".

Textiles Through Time
In the time of past generations, the role of handmade cloth and garment was more prominent, more personal, more part of everyday life than what is commonly known today. Textiles embodied the social values and customs of their times: opulent laces and richly woven fabrics displaying wealth and prestige; fabrics of intricate detail and symbolic design for dowries, births, and deaths; richly hand embroidered and woven textiles for household adornment.
